Role of the County Sheriff

The County Sheriff is the county's chief law enforcement officer, elected by the citizens to preserve the peace, enforce state laws, and protect the lives and property of residents. As an independently elected constitutional officer, the Sheriff serves the public with integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to public safety.

The Sheriff's Office is responsible for providing law enforcement services throughout the county, particularly in unincorporated areas, investigating criminal activity, responding to emergencies, serving civil and criminal process issued by the courts, and executing warrants. The Sheriff also operates and manages the county jail, ensuring the safe and secure custody of individuals in accordance with state and federal law.

In addition to law enforcement responsibilities, the Sheriff works closely with local, state, and federal agencies, emergency responders, county officials, and community organizations to promote public safety, emergency preparedness, and crime prevention. Through dedicated service and accountability, the Sheriff's Office plays a vital role in protecting the community and upholding the laws of the State of Texas.
