Role of the County Commissioners
County Commissioners are elected officials who serve on the Commissioners Court, the governing body of county government in Texas. Each commissioner represents one of four precincts within the county and works alongside the County Judge to make decisions that serve the best interests of all county residents.
Commissioners are responsible for adopting the county budget and tax rate, overseeing county finances, maintaining county roads and bridges, managing county property, and funding essential public services. They also approve contracts, infrastructure projects, and policies that support the efficient operation of county government.
While each commissioner represents the needs of their individual precinct, they work collaboratively as members of the Commissioners Court to ensure responsible stewardship of public resources, promote transparency, and provide effective services for the entire county.
