Role of the County Tax Assessor-Collector
The County Tax Assessor-Collector is a constitutional office established by the Texas Constitution and serves an essential role in county government.
The office administers motor vehicle registration and title services, collects state motor vehicle sales taxes and fees, and serves as the Voter Registrar responsible for maintaining voter registration records and conducting voter registration activities in accordance with state law.
It is important to note that the County Tax Assessor-Collector does not determine property values or set tax rates. Property values are established by the County Appraisal District, while tax rates are adopted by the governing bodies of each taxing entity.
The County Tax Assessor-Collector is dedicated to providing efficient, accurate, and courteous service while ensuring compliance with the laws of the State of Texas. Through responsible stewardship and public service, the office helps fund essential local government services and provides convenient access to important vehicle registration, title, and voter registration services for the residents of the county.
