Role of the County Treasurer
The County Treasurer serves as the chief custodian of county funds and is responsible for receiving, safeguarding, and disbursing county money in accordance with Texas law. As the county's banker, the Treasurer works to ensure public funds are managed accurately, securely, and transparently.
The Treasurer receives and deposits county revenues, processes payments authorized by the Commissioners Court, maintains financial records, reconciles bank accounts, and monitors cash flow. The office also invests county funds as permitted by law and provides regular financial reports to the Commissioners Court and other county officials.
Working closely with the County Judge, Commissioners Court, Auditor (where applicable), and other elected officials, the County Treasurer plays a vital role in maintaining the county's financial integrity and ensuring taxpayer dollars are managed responsibly. Through careful stewardship and accountability, the Treasurer helps support the efficient operation of county government and the delivery of essential public services.
